262: Secular VS Sacred

April 26, 2024

Work is often viewed through the lens of Genesis 3, where it is seen as a penalty rather than a divine calling. However, Genesis 2 presents a different narrative: work was ordained by God in paradise as a means of establishing dominion over creation. This perspective transforms our view of work, revealing it as a form of worship rather than a mere obligation.

In the New Testament, Ephesians 2 and Colossians 3 emphasize that our everyday work—whether compensated or not—is an act of service to God. As we labor, we participate in God’s ongoing creation, enriching our communities and honoring our divine calling.

This shift in perspective encourages us to see our vocations not just as jobs but as integral parts of our spiritual lives. It’s not about compartmentalizing our faith but integrating it into every aspect of our lives, including our work.

Scott Rae’s interest in this field was sparked by his long-standing engagement with business ethics and his commitment to understanding how Christian principles can be effectively applied in the workplace. His dedication to this topic reflects a deep belief that a solid foundation in faith and work is essential for meaningful Christian integration in professional settings.
