September 27, 2024

Join us on today’s podcast as we welcome the incredible Erin Aldrich-Shean! Hosted by Randy Youngling, Director of the Sports Ministry Institute at Grace School of Theology, this episode dives deep into Erin’s inspiring journey from dreaming of the Olympics as a child to competing on the world’s biggest stage. Erin shares the highs and challenges of her Olympic experience, as well as her powerful spiritual journey marked by resilience and faith. Tune in to be inspired by her story of perseverance, courage, and trust in God.

Erin Aldrich-Shean is a former Olympic athlete and national-level volleyball player whose passion for sports began at a young age. Erin pursued her dream relentlessly, excelling in both volleyball and track and field. She attended Lake Highlands High School and continued her athletic journey at the University of Texas at Austin, where she competed for the Texas Longhorns in both sports.

Erin’s volleyball career included playing for the U.S. women’s national volleyball team and competing professionally for the NEC Red Rockets. In track and field, she represented the United States at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games as a high jumper and participated in several World Championships throughout her career. Her personal best jump of 1.97 meters (6 ft 6 in) is a testament to her exceptional athleticism.

Although Erin’s career had its share of challenges—narrowly missing spots on subsequent Olympic teams and facing injuries—her story is one of perseverance and embracing the moment. Today, she shares her incredible journey, reflecting on her experiences as an Olympian and national team athlete, inspiring others to pursue their dreams with determination and resilience.
