Preparing You for Academic Success

Grace English Language Program (GELP) provides customized English language training for international seminary applicants and students whose native language is not English.

Formerly known as the Grace ESL Program, GELP offers remote one-on-one coaching and group classes designed to support success in academic, professional, and ministry settings.

First-time seminary applicants may take the iTEP exam for free.

What is GELP?

Grace English Language Program (GELP) is a non-degree seminary preparation program offered to eligible Grace seminary prospects and students whose native language is not English.

The program develops English proficiency as used in academic, professional, and business environments. It also incorporates cultural understanding and communication skills necessary for effective participation in seminary and global ministry contexts.

The goal of GELP is to prepare students for success in academic study, professional environments, and global ministry by strengthening their English communication skills.

Who is GELP For?

GELP students are classified into the following categories:

Category A

Non-iTEP passers who are evaluated as eligible for GELP training. For details, contact an Admissions Advisor.

Category B

International students in Grace seminary English and TagLish programs who are located in the Philippines and are not native English speakers.

Category C

International students in Grace seminary English programs who are not native English speakers and are located in the United States or other countries.

Eligibility Requirements

You are eligible for GELP training if you belong to one of the categories above and have submitted one of the following language placement reports:

✔️ An overall iTEP score of B2 level or higher

✔️ An overall iTEP score of B1 level (3.0–3.4)

✔️ An official report from an alternative language placement (GELP Form 2)

How to Get Started

Step 1: Language Placement
This process is for seminary applicants and requires submission of proof of English proficiency through iTEP or an alternative placement method.
Step 2: GELP Orientation
After receiving language placement results, students may schedule a GELP orientation.
Step 3: Begin Training
Students may join a cohort-based class or enroll in one-on-one coaching. For program details, schedules, and registration, contact an Admissions Advisor.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of a GELP course, students will be able to:

✔️ Increase awareness of their English language abilities and develop effective learning strategies
✔️ Apply principles of effective oral and written communication in academic and professional settings
✔️ Demonstrate understanding of cultural aspects of American academic environments
✔️ Build meaningful relationships within the Grace community through English communication

Course Rates

✔️ Free for all international GSOT staff and students
✔️ $20 per credit unit for seminary applicants
✔️ $60 per 3-credit course (credited toward a GELP certificate)

Academic English Certificate

ESG-042: Grammar and Rhetoric in Seminary Writing (3 units)
This course introduces upper-intermediate grammar and rhetorical concepts applied to seminary writing.

ESR-033: Reading, Writing, and Study Skills for Hybrid Seminary Learning (3 units)
This course equips students with tools for academic success in a hybrid learning environment, including reading, writing, and study strategies.

Professional and Business English Courses

ESP-034: English Basics – A Grammar Refresher for Professionals (2 units)
This course reviews fundamental grammar, pronunciation, and conversational skills, with applications for ministry and workplace communication.

ESP-035: Conversational English – Speak Like a Professional (2 units)
This course focuses on conversational skills for general and workplace communication, emphasizing effective communication styles and strategies.
